When we are attacked or insulted, our first inclination is to hit back. It is the natural response of our flesh. That also means that the inclination is probably wrong.
When He was assailed, Jesus did not respond in kind. When He was hung on the cross, he asked His Father to forgive us who were guilty of His death.
It is easy to respond in kind. It is Jesus-like to forgive.
